In 2023 Russell and Sam joined forces and set up Total Equine Care. Together, Russell and Sam recognized the need for a higher level of hoof care that caters to the individual horse. They also identified the demand for a professional team of farriers who could harness the latest advances in farriery techniques to deliver cutting-edge care. They bring a wealth of experience and a passion for equine hoof care that drives our mission to deliver comprehensive and individualized services to the horses in their care.
Russell Novelli earned his farriery qualifications from Warwickshire College. In 2006, Russell established his farrier business Tower Forge, covering North Wales, Cheshire, and Merseyside, gaining extensive hands-on experience in the industry. Russell’s commitment to advancing his knowledge in equine hoof care led him to pursue a BSc (Hons) in Farriery Science. During his studies, his dissertation delved into the intricate world of hoof ground interaction within the equine hind limb, specifically exploring the impact of three different shoe types on two distinct surfaces. Russell has previously trained apprentices and has a passion for teaching. Russell’s in-depth knowledge and dedication set the foundation for Total Equine Care’s excellence.
Sam Crompton qualified from Myerscough College in 2014. In 2015, he established Crompton Farriers, offering his services across the Wirral and Cheshire regions. In 2015, he embarked on the DipHE Farriery course at the University or Central Lancashire and graduated in 2019 with a first-class BSc (Hons) in Farriery. Sam’s dissertation explored how horseshoe heel length influences stance phase characteristics. During the degree course Sam also gained a qualification allowing him to train apprentices making him an Approved Training Farrier (ATF). Sam has also conducted Farriery exams in Granada, Spain. He was part of the exam team that assisted the Escuela De Herradores Granada gain accreditation with the European Federation of Farriers Associations.
